Ethel M® Chocolates Supports Student Literacy Through Feed Your Mind™ Program
Now through Dec. 31, Ethel M® Chocolates will donate $1 from the sale of the 16 oz. Deluxe Assortment, the best selling item, to literacy in Clark County schools. The money raised will be made available to two organizations, Kids-to-Kids and Clark County READS through grants administered on behalf of Ethel M® Chocolates by KidsCharities.org.
For more than 20 years, Ethel M® Chocolates has been devoted to providing assistance to organizations whose main focus is to make life better for Las Vegas residents. This tradition of giving, established by Forrest Mars Sr., continues with the launch of Feed Your Mind™, a program designed to grant dollars to organizations supporting literacy for children from school grades K through 5.
"Ethel M® Chocolates wants to assist with the future of Clark County," said Lynn Moran, president of Ethel M® Chocolates. "If a person is able to read, they are able to succeed in life. Ethel M® Chocolates wants to be part of their success."
This effort is collaboration between Clark County Reads, Kids-to-Kids and KidsCharities.org.
The mission of Clark County READS is to provide books to school libraries and classroom resource centers and to recruit volunteer reading partners. This helps build the reading skills of elementary students who are not at their reading grade level. The program is a partnership with Clark County, the Clark County School District, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, and the Clark County Public Education Foundation.
Kids-to-Kids is a literacy project whose goal is to assist pre-kindergarten through third grade at-risk students to develop their own personal library collections for use at home. In order to become fluent readers, children need books at home that they can read again and again. So that reading together will become an important family activity, Kids-to-Kids hope is that the books will be used and enjoyed by the entire family.
KidsCharities.org is a non-profit Internet-based organization that is an umbrella for many vital and productive children's charities including City of Hope, Special Olympics, Planet Hope, Chances for Children and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Unique online giving opportunities, coupled with live events, as well as strategic marketing partnerships, are revolutionizing fundraising to benefit children everywhere.
Together with these organizations, Ethel M® Chocolates' goal is to provide resources readily available in helping school children learn to read.
"The decision to partner with Clark County READS and Kids-to-Kids was an easy one," said Moran. "Both organizations have a mission to help Clark County students through literacy, and each have proven their success. This is the third project we have worked on with KidsCharities.org.
