National Organ Donor Day: February 14th

Organ DonorOrgan DonorOver 90,000 people are waiting for the gift of life. Each day, about 74 people receive an organ transplant. However, 17 people die each day waiting for transplants that can't take place because of the shortage of donated organs. The official U.S. Government web site for organ and tissue donation and transplantation, www.organdonor.gov, is maintained by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Healthcare Systems Bureau (HSB), Division of Transplantation, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human. The Division also administers grant programs and conducts public and professional education initiatives to increase awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donors.
