Sweet Idea!

My sons have brought home everything from gift wrap to flower bulbs to sell for fundraising, but the brand-name candy bars that our Temple City National Little League sells are the most successful. At a dollar apiece, these large, well-known brands are a great value.

They're also easy for my husband to take in to the office. He leaves them in the break room with a coffee can for the donations. Who can resist a Snickers bar with their coffee in the afternoon?

In the neighborhood, people who want to help out the local Little League can do it easily and quickly. They don't have to look through a catalog, write a check, or wait for their order to be delivered. All they have to do is come up with a dollar. Most people buy three or four, so everyone in the family can have a treat after dinner. It's hard to resist a cute kid, a good cause and tempting candy! --Karen E. Klein Scauzillo, Temple City, CA

Expert fundraiser Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, founder of KidsCharities.org, recently produced a highly successful benefit concert at the Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts in Ridgefield CT, starring award winning entertainer and husband, David Cassidy. David and his band, in the midst of an international tour, dropped into this historic 500 seat theater for one night only and brought the house down! Adding to the excitement of the evening was an unannounced musical appearance by musician Paul Schaeffer of the Late Night Orchestra. Paul stepped in to play keyboards on David's signature song "I Think I Love You". Proceeds of $78,000 from the concert and live charity auction, which alone raised over $30,000 in less than 30 minutes, were earmarked for worthy children's charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Great entertainment for a great cause is a winning combination that you can use for your next fundraiser. Even if you don't have access to headline performers, gifted emerging artists are everywhere! Request a donation of time and talent in return for exposure the performer will gain by appearing at your next event. Give it a try!
